2017 – The Cassini spacecraft concluded its mission with the Grand Finale. It plunged into Saturn’s atmosphere, beaming science data until its final moments.

2006 – STS-115 – Wakeup Song: Hotel California – “Hotel California” by the Eagles for Mission Specialist Joe Tanner.
1991 – Wind Imaging Interferometer (WINDII) aboard NASA’s Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite UARS, deployed from Space Shuttle flight STS-48. It had ten sensing and measuring devices and operated until 2003.

1968 – The Soviet Zond 5 spaceship is launched, becoming the first spacecraft to fly around the Moon and re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere.
1966 – Gemini 11 returns to Earth after 2 days, 23 hours, 17 minutes and 9 seconds and 44 orbits. The spacecraft used the first totally automatic, computer-controlled reentry, which brought her down 2.8 miles (4.5 km) from its recovery ship USS Guam, and only 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from the planned position.
