
2018 – InSight, The Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport, mission was a robotic lander designed to study the deep geology of Mars. The spacecraft was launched aboard an Atlas V-401 launch vehicle and successfully landed at Elysium Planitia on Mars on 26 November 2018 InSight was active on Mars for 1440 sols (1480 days; 4 years, 19 days).

2017 – National Astronaut Day. Commemorating the first United States human spaceflight, on May 5, 1961, piloted by astronaut Alan Shepard.


1961 – After several delays on the launch pad, some of them planned,
Alan Shepard became the first American in “space”, taking a 15 minute suborbital ride aboard the Mercury spacecraft Freedom 7. He flew to an altitude of 116 statute miles and to a landing point 302 statute miles down the Atlantic Missile Range.
