
2013 – Soyuz TMA-08M launched on a flight to the International Space Station. The Expedition 35 crew were Pavel Vinogradov,
Alexander Misurkin, and Christopher Cassidy. This was the 117th flight of a Soyuz spacecraft.

2009 – STS 119, Discovery, lands after a 14 day mission to ISS.

2007 – New Horizon‘s spacecraft, on a Mission to Pluto, images a “Burst of Color” on Io, a moon of Jupiter.
1993 – Outburst of supernova in the M81 galaxy in Ursa Major was discovered by the Spanish amateur astronomer Francisco Garcia Diaz from Lugo (Spain).
1969 – Death of Dwight David Eisenhower President of the United States, 1953-1961; he began the development of Jupiter, Thor, Atlas, Titan, Polaris, and Minuteman – the foundation of US access to space. His distrust of of the military-industrial complex led him to create NASA, a civilian path to space.
1802 – Heinrich W. Olbers discovers the 2nd asteroid, Pallas, the second largest asteroid.

1946 – Wubbo Johannes Ockels was Dutch physicist and astronaut with the European Space Agency who, in 1985, became the first Dutch citizen in space when he flew on STS-61-A as a payload specialist.
