1986 – Voyager 2 flyby of Uranus. Voyager 2 obtained clear images of each of the five large moons of Uranus Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel, Titania and Oberon (known before encounter, and discovers ten new moons. Methane, which absorbs red light, was discovered in theplanet’s upper atmosphere explaining Uranus’ blue-green colour.
1978 – Cosmos 954 reentered the earth’s atmosphere and was located near Yellowknife, Northwestern Territories.
