1960 -Secretary of the Interior Fred A. Seaton and Secretary of the Army Wilber M. Brucker announced that the U.S. Geological Survey had completed the first known photo-geological survey of the surface of the moon. Up until this time, the craters on the Moon were thought to be the result of volcanism.
