2001- Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) takes 100,000th Image

1998 The first module of the International Space Station, Zarya, is launched.

1889 - Edwin Hubble's Birthday, American astronomer who first identified Cepheid variables in M31, proved the extragalactic nature of the spiral nebulae (galaxies). Building on work by Carl Wirtz, and with Slipher's redshifts, Hubble established the velocity-distance relation for galaxies (Hubble's Law) which demonstrates the universe's expansion.
