1962 - Launch of Mercury-Atlas 8 (Sigma 7), focus of spacecraft engineering and microgravity effects on the pilot, Wally Schirra, Jr.

1815 - Chassigny Meteorite fall in Chassigny, Haute Marne, France,  this was the first meteorite identified being from Mars. Although the meteorite was originally 4,000 grams, there are only 750 grams preserved today.
